Medan Area University held an Online Graduation Ceremony for the Period I Year 2021 Undergraduate and Masters Program on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Library Building Campus I, University of Medan Area Jl. Pool No. 1 Medan Estate, Zoom Application and Youtube Live Streaming of Medan Area University.
During the online graduation ceremony, the Chancellor and his staff were still present at the Campus I Library building of the Medan Area University while still observing the complete health protocol using masks, while the graduates / I remained at their respective homes.
The Medan Area University academic report by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Ir. Hj. Siti Mardiana, MSi said that in this period the University of Medan Area graduated undergraduate and master students from 20 study programs totaling 720 graduates, consisting of 101 engineering faculties, 50 agriculture faculty graduates, 140 graduates from the economics and business faculty, 71 law faculty graduates, and 71 Social and political science 51 graduates, psychology faculty 104 graduates and science and technology faculty 10 graduates and for the master program, namely for the master’s degree in psychology as many as 57 graduates, the master’s degree in public administration 66 graduates, the master’s degree in agribusiness 13 graduates and for the master’s degree in law 56 graduates.
Of the 719 graduates who graduated today, 16 from the undergraduate program and 4 from the master’s program were selected as the best graduates for the 1st period of 2021.
On this occasion, the Chancellor of UMA Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng M.Sc in his speech at the online graduation conveyed our congratulations to the parents and families of graduates who today accompanied and witnessed the graduation of their children, beloved family members in their respective places.
According to the Instruction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 6 of 2020 concerning Improvement of Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols in the Prevention and Control of Covid-19, that activities that gather large numbers of people for a long time have a high risk of spreading Covid-19. Therefore, UMA currently organizes Graduations online. God willing, in the future when everyone has received the vaccine, we will conduct graduation as usual offline,’ said the Chancellor.
This graduation raised the theme “In improving the quality of education, the Medan Area University has implemented Merdeka Learning – Merdeka Campus through improving the Higher Education curriculum that refers to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework, so as to produce Innovative, Personal and Independent resources”. With the issuance of Permendikbud No. 3 Year 2020 concerning National Higher Education Standards, which regulates Independent Learning-Independent Campuses, currently students are given the freedom to choose the form of learning that can be carried out outside of Higher Education for a maximum of 3 semesters (60 credits). Students can carry out internships, entrepreneurship, thematic Real Work Lectures, Research, conducting humanitarian programs, Independent Studies and Campus Teaching Programs. Currently, UMA has reconstructed the curriculum to be able to implement the Independent Learning-Independent Campus program and there are 73 students who are carrying out the Teaching Campus Program in Elementary Schools in various places according to their respective regions. UMA has conducted various collaborations with academic and non-academic institutions. Since 2020, UMA has continued to carry out follow-up collaborations with PELINDO for certified internships which have been attended by 9 students and with Bank Indonesia for scholarships to more than 50 students. Academic activities are carried out by 298 permanent lecturers and assisted by 180 education staff who have met the standard qualifications set by the government. 52 lecturers of whom have doctoral qualifications with 5 professors. Currently, 42 lecturers are continuing their Doctoral Program studies at various domestic and foreign universities. During this period, there were 7 (seven) lecturers who obtained doctoral degrees. 3rd place in the selection of Indonesian Education Men and Women 2020 organized by the Indonesian Achievement Youth Association.
